THINK ABOUT THE DEMANDS OF YOUR SPIRIT

Dear Friends,

Today I am writing to you a brief letter. The whole burden of this letter is exactly this: That person is a fool who expects anything less than life from GOD.

All my life – right from my childhood, I have heard people praying to GOD for nice bungalows, cars, bikes, beautiful girl, handsome boy, lots of money and so on. Isn’t this strange?! All my life I have seen people worshiping GOD not for the sake of GOD! They think that GOD helps them get things in their life – things that are meant for body – things that wear out by use, grow old, and ultimately end one day.

Just as I have seen people who worship GOD for things which perish by use, I have seen gods who give only the things which are meant for body, or not even for body but for luxury. When people need money, they pray to a goddess who gives them money. When they want their business venture to succeed, they pray to a god who is meant for that purpose. When they want to harm their enemies, they pray to a god who is meant for that purpose. They have billions of gods for things which are not integral to life. Surprisingly, they do not have even one god who will heal them from sickness or give them abundant life or help them lead a holy life or, above all, give them salvation of their spirit!

Salvation of the spirit…Just consider how important it is to achieve salvation of the spirit! We may live for up to 70 years. If we are physically strong, we may live up to 80 years. Say, a hundred years. But we all know that a day will come when our life in this world will end. The moment we die, the whole world ends for us. The choices food, most exquisite crockery, most sumptuous furniture, great mansion, cars, private aircrafts or yachts, great bank balance…What is the meaning of all this when life itself is gone?

But our spirit will live forever. The Holy Bible says that the spirit will live forever in hell or in heaven. Living forever in hell is defined as ‘second death’. Death of the body is ‘first death’. Instead of calling it ‘first death’, Bible calls it falling asleep. All who die are asleep. There is a day appointed when all dead will come back to life. The purpose for their coming to life is to stand before GOD for the Final Judgment, when GOD will judge us for all the good and the bad that we have done, HE will assign us the place either in heaven or in hell. It is HIS ardent desire that we stay in heaven, the place where we shall see GOD face-to-face and live in HIS presence forever!

There are some intelligent people who doubt the existence of GOD and question those who believe in HIM, “Where is your GOD?” To such as these, we do not need to answer. Not that we do not have answer to this question; but the thing is that even if we answer their question, they are not going to accept it one way or the other. Why waste time on them? It is better that we prepare ourselves for the best.

And how this life with GOD will be like? My Dear Friends, Bible gives wonderful description of it in the Book of Revelation. Instead of describing it in my words, I would rather quote the whole chapter in which JESUS Himself assures the reader about its surety and veracity. Before I quote it, please note that where you read about the LAMB, know that the LAMB refers to JESUS.

Revelation, Chapter 21

Then I saw “a new heaven and a new earth,” for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and there was no longer any sea. I saw the Holy City, the New Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from GOD, prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Look! GOD’s dwelling place is now among the people, and HE will dwell with them. They will be His people, and GOD Himself will be with them and be their GOD. ‘HE will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death’ or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.”

HE who was seated on the throne said, “I am making everything new!” Then HE said, “Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true.”

HE said to me: “It is done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. To the thirsty I will give water without cost from the spring of the water of life. Those who are victorious will inherit all this, and I will be their GOD and they will be my children. But the cowardly, the unbelieving, the vile, the murderers, the sexually immoral, those who practice magic arts, the idolaters and all liars – they will be consigned to the fiery lake of burning sulfur. This is the second death.”

One of the seven angels who had the seven bowls full of the seven last plagues came and said to me, “Come, I will show you the bride, the wife of the LAMB.” And he carried me away in the Spirit to a mountain great and high, and showed me the Holy City, Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from GOD. It shone with the glory of GOD, and its brilliance was like that of a very precious jewel, like a jasper, clear as crystal. It had a great, high wall with twelve gates, and with twelve angels at the gates. On the gates were written the names of the twelve tribes of Israel. There were three gates on the east, three on the north, three on the south and three on the west. The wall of the city had twelve foundations, and on them were the names of the twelve apostles of the LAMB.

The angel who talked with me had a measuring rod of gold to measure the city, its gates and its walls. The city was laid out like a square, as long as it was wide. He measured the city with the rod and found it to be 12000 stadia in length, and as wide and high as it is long. The angel measured the wall using human measurement, and it was 144 cubits thick. The wall was made of jasper, and the city of pure gold, as pure as glass. The foundations of the city walls were decorated with every kind of precious stone. The first foundation was jasper, the second sapphire, the third agate, the fourth emerald, the fifth onyx, the sixth ruby, the seventh chrysolite, the eighth beryl, the ninth topaz, the tenth turquoise, the eleventh jacinth, and the twelfth amethyst. The twelve gates were twelve pearls, each gate made of a single pearl. The great street of the city was of gold, as pure as transparent glass.

I did not see a temple in the city, because the Lord GOD Almighty and the LAMB are its temple. The city does not need the sun or the moon to shine on it, for the glory of GOD gives it light, and the LAMB is its lamp. The nations will walk by its light, and the kings of the earth will bring their splendor into it. On no day will its gates ever be shut, for there will be no night there. The glory and honor of the nations will be brought into it. Nothing impure will ever enter it, nor will anyone who does what is shameful or deceitful, but only those whose names are written in the LAMB’s book of life.

Revelation, Chapter 22

Then the angel showed me the river of the water of life, as clear as crystal, flowing from the throne of GOD and of the LAMB down the middle of the great street of the city. On each side of the river stood the tree of life, bearing twelve crops of fruit, yielding its fruit every month. And the leaves of the tree are for the healing of the nations. No longer will there be any curse. The throne of GOD and of the LAMB will be in the city, and HIS servants will serve Him. They will see HIS face, and HIS name will be on their foreheads. There will be no more night. They will not need the light of a lamp or the light of the sun, for the Lord GOD will give them light. And they will reign forever and ever.”

My Dear Friends, this is the life that is promised in JESUS – for those who accept HIM as their LORD and SAVIOR. This is infinitely more desirable than having the whole world. That, exactly is the reason why JESUS said to the people who had gathered to hear HIS sermon: “For what profit is it to a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul?”

JESUS is here to give you not just life but eternal life; not just happiness but eternal happiness. The life that HE offers is free from all the problems that are associated with the present life. It will be a perfect life. Please do yourself favor and think about your spirit. What is done for the spirit, endures. What is done for the body, perishes. That is the reason why JESUS said:

“Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal; but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal.”

All you have to do in order to lay up treasures in heaven is to accept JESUS as your personal SAVIOR, the LORD of your life. That’s all! HE provides you with both your physical and spiritual needs. What is important is that you prioritize things that have to do with your spirit.
