Dear Friends,
Many people don’t believe in the existence of evil
spirits or ghosts. However, those who believe in the existence of God, they
have no ground for not believing in the existence of Satan. And if they believe
in the existence of God and Satan, they surely do not have any ground for not
believing in good spirits and evil spirits, and their being engaged in a
terrible battle. What many people do not know is the fact that the
battle-ground where they fight their battle is none other than the mankind
itself. Both God and Satan are fighting for the mankind.

spirits or ghosts. However, those who believe in the existence of God, they
have no ground for not believing in the existence of Satan. And if they believe
in the existence of God and Satan, they surely do not have any ground for not
believing in good spirits and evil spirits, and their being engaged in a
terrible battle. What many people do not know is the fact that the
battle-ground where they fight their battle is none other than the mankind
itself. Both God and Satan are fighting for the mankind.
God wants mankind because they are His best creation.
God is glorified by the crowning point of His creation, that is, humanity.
Therefore, He wants to preserve it. Satan, on the other hand, wants to win the
mankind in order to destroy it! Isn’t it surprising?
Well, there is a reason why Satan wants to destroy the
mankind. Satan knows that God created the mankind and He loves it. It stands to
logic that Satan, who hates God, should hate the mankind as well. Because God
loves the mankind, Satan must destroy what God loves.
But, this is not the only reason why Satan is trying to
destroy the mankind. Another reason why Satan wants to destroy the mankind is
that Satan lost the battle against God with finality when he dared to challenge
God directly. God punished this defeated enemy by throwing him and his allies
out of Heaven and onto the earth. The ghosts and evil spirits who we see in
this world are the same Satan and his fallen angels.
Please note that God’s punishment on Satan and ‘fallen’
angels is not limited to their ouster from Heaven. God has appointed a time
when Satan and his ‘fallen’ angels (the evil spirits) will be cast into a
prison of infinite suffering called Hell. Since Satan knows that he is damned
forever to inescapable and eternal suffering of Hell, the thought of the
mankind (God’s supreme creation) enjoying eternal life in Heaven with God
inspires jealousy in him. It suits his diabolical nature to derive joy from
bringing the mankind to share his fate with him.
Not only that; Satan and his evil spirits will do all
they can to destroy our life on earth. In short, he wants to destroy all
aspects of our life, namely, mind, body and spirit, and all spheres of our
activities under the sun. Bible records many instances of dark or evil spirits
crisscrossing the life of people.
On one occasion a father came to Jesus and requested
Him to save his son’s life from the unclean spirit that was troubling him. When
that evil spirit saw Jesus, he convulsed the boy and threw him on the ground,
wallowing and foaming at the mouth. Jesus inquired of the father, “How long has
this been happening to him?” He said, “From childhood. And often he has thrown
him both into the fire and into the water to destroy him. But if you can do
anything, have compassion on us and help us.” Jesus responded by rebuking the
unclean spirit and driving him out of the boy.
On another occasion, Jesus drove out from one man an
unclean spirit who made that man blind and mute. After Jesus drove out that
spirit, that man began to see and speak.
Yet another man was possessed by an entire army of
unclean spirits who made him wander naked in a wilderness, live among tombs,
and injure himself. Since he was extremely violent, people tried to bind him
with chain but he would break chain as well. People were so afraid of him that
they stayed away from the area which this man frequented.
But Jesus went there and met him. He commanded the
entire army of unclean spirits that was haunting that man to leave him. Those
spirits requested Jesus to allow them to enter a herd of pigs that was nearby.
Jesus did allow them to enter pigs. And when they entered pigs, the whole herd
rushed into the Sea of Galilee and was drowned.
What they did to the pigs, they wanted to do with that
man also. But God did not allow that to happen. Evil spirits always want to
destroy people’s life. The good news is that God is Almighty and has complete
power over these spirits. If we call on God to save the possessed people from
being destroyed by such evil spirits, God will listen to our prayer and save the
people troubled by evil spirits. In no other way, a person can be free from the
power of evil spirits. God has granted His disciples the power to drive out
unclean spirits from people who are possessed – the same power that Jesus
wielded.
Having said that, it must be added that it is not
enough that evil spirit is cast out of a person. There are certain precautions
to be taken by the person who is freed from such a spirit. Jesus informs us
about the whole situation in the following terms:
“When an unclean spirit goes out of a man, he goes
through dry places, seeking rest, and finds none. Then he says, ‘I will return
to my house from which I came.’ And when he comes, he finds it empty, swept,
and put in order. Then he goes and takes with him seven other spirits more
wicked than himself, and they enter and dwell there; and the last state of that
man is worse than the first.”
This, then, is what may happen with a person who is
freed from an unclean spirit. In order to avoid this from happening, it is
absolutely necessary that the person freed from an unclean spirit makes himself
the house of God by inviting Jesus in his life. The evil spirits cannot and
dare not enter a person who is owned by Jesus.
Dear Friends, if there is someone you know – someone
who is possessed by unclean spirit, you will do good to take him to any
disciple of Jesus for prayer. The Spirit of Jesus, the Holy Spirit, is mightily
at work in this world today. He is there to help people achieve freedom from
the bondage of evil spirit, and lead a happy life.
